Kuala Namu Airport Medan, Indonesia Second Largest Airport

Have you ever heard of Kuala Namu airport? The airport is scheduled to open in 2013 as a replacement for Polonia International Airport, Medan, because the early airport locations are close enough to urban and residential areas, which such conditions are very dangerous for the safety of residents, city and also aviation.

This airport has a runway length of 3750 meters, which can accommodate super jumbo aircraft such as the Airbus A 380. The construction of Phase 1 airports can accommodate up to 10 million passengers per year.

Kuala Namu International Airport is located in the Kuala Namu, Banyan Village, District Beringin, Deli Serdang regency, North Sumatra. This airport is expected to become the second largest airport in Indonesia after Sukarno Hatta International Airport that also scheduled to be super big expansion. The airport is expected to become new international transit center in Sumatra and the western part of Indonesia.

No half-hearted, this airport has a runway length of 3750 meters, which can accommodate super jumbo aircraft such as the Airbus A 380. The construction of Phase 1 airports can accommodate up to 10 million passengers per year. If the second stage is completed, then the airport is possible to accommodate up to 25 million passengers a year.

The airport is also equipped with a land mass transportation integrating with the trains, so passengers can be using the train to get to downtown Medan just within 30 Km.

Up till now, the certainty of the airport’s official name is still in conversation. The proposed names are Kualanamu International Airport, North Sumatra International Airport, and Toba International Airport, according to news circulating on the forums skyscrapercity, the name of the airport will be submitted to ICAO in November this year.
